Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder David Mathebula wants the AmaKhosi fans to give new coach Arthur Zwane time to adapt and bring success to the club.
Zwane was promoted and made Chiefs head coach towards the end of last season after the club fired Stuart Baxter following a stint of poor results.
The 39-year-old Mathebula feels that even though the AmaKhosi faithful called for Zwane to be made head coach, which has happened, he now needs to be given the time and respect to start getting the results and silverware that fans want.
“I think he can be successful but the fans will have to be patient,” Mathebula says.
“Look the fans have been calling for him (Zwane) to be the head coach and the club hierarchy has delivered that. Now it’s up to the fans to support the club, come out to the stadiums and back him. That’s what I’m hoping to see,” Mathebula tells KickOff.com.
In the current transfer window, Chiefs released ten players and have been busy buying others, namely: Swallows FC trio Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Dillon Solomons, and Lehlogonolo Matlou, Stellenbosch FC’s Ashely Du Preez and Yuusuf Maart from Sekhukhune United.
“I think they’ve done very well in the market. They got their targets and sorted their business early. That shows they have great leadership at the club and that’s wonderful to see,” Mathebula says.
“It’s good for the coach because it makes it a bit easier to prepare for a new season. It also gives players and chance to get to know each other. That’s why I’m asking the supporters to give him time because these players have to understand each other and understand what the coach needs from them.”
