Marumo Gallants FC will be playing in the DStv Premiership next season after buying the top-flight status of bankrupt Moroka Swallows.
Gallants’ owner Abram Sello confirmed in an official statement that he had completed an immediate purchase of the famous Dube Birds franchise.
Gallants, who finished 11th in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season, will play their home games next season in Bloemfontein as they move from Thohoyandou Stadium in Limpopo.
The David Mogashoa-owned Swallows have endured a difficult period in top-flight football, facing financial difficulties, internal conflicts, and highly publicized player disputes. At one point last season, players allegedly refused to play due to unpaid salaries.
As a result, Swallows forfeited six points for the two matches they failed to participate in.
“Following the final approval of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) today, Marumo Gallants Football Club officially confirms the acquisition of Moroka Swallows Football Club. Gallants will take over Swallows with immediate effect. The club also confirms that home games for the upcoming season will be played in Bloemfontein, Free State,” Gallants shared in an official club statement addressed to the media.
“Gallants will provide more details once staff, technical team and players have been addressed. At this stage the club will not be issuing further comments or taking interviews – a date will be communicated for a press briefing that will take place shortly,” read an official statement from Gallants.
