Sundowns’ Manqoba Mngqithi praised striker Peter Shalulile’s dedication after his standout display in their 4-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Knockout.
This win propelled Sundowns into the semifinals and highlighted Shalulile’s resurgence, as he netted his fourth goal in three matches across all competitions.
Mngqithi refrained from taking personal credit for Shalulile’s turnaround, instead attributing the striker’s success to his own professionalism and dedication.
“I wouldn’t want to take the credit for his turnaround,” Mngqithi stated during the post-match press conference.
He emphasized, “It starts from him. He’s one of the best professionals I’ve ever worked with and one of the hardest-working players.”
The coach noted Shalulile’s unwavering focus and commitment, which had a positive influence on the entire squad.
“The energy from the team and the coaching staff was all about wishing Peter the best,” he added.
Mngqithi explained that the club had always believed in Shalulile’s potential and supported him through a challenging period, stating, “The least we did as coaches was to not lose faith in him.”
As Sundowns prepare for Wednesday’s Betway Premiership match against Polokwane City, Mngqithi’s faith in Shalulile’s ability to continue finding the net served as a reminder of the striker’s vital role in the team’s success.
