Mamelodi Sundowns came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory against Kaizer Chiefs in their Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Despite conceding an early goal, Sundowns displayed resilience to claim all three points.
Kaizer Chiefs took the lead in the 9th minute when Ranga Chivaviro pounced on a Reeve Frosler assist, firing a right-footed shot past Ronwen Williams.
The early strike sparked the home fans into life as Chiefs seemed poised to dominate.
However, Sundowns responded with the composure of champions.
In the 31st minute, Lucas Ribeiro Costa drew the visitors level with a superb left-footed effort from the left side of the box, curling it into the top right corner after a neat assist from Tashreeq Matthews.
Just six minutes later, Iqraam Rayners completed the comeback, slotting home from the centre of the box after a perfectly timed pass from Costa, who appeared to be in an offside position.
Despite protests from Chiefs, the goal stood, and Sundowns headed into half-time with a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, Chiefs pushed hard to find an equalizer, but Sundowns’ goalkeeper Ronwen Williams put on a masterclass, pulling off crucial saves to deny the home side.
Williams denied Edson Castillo’s diving header in the 81st minute, preserving the lead and ultimately securing Sundowns’ victory.
The win propelled Mamelodi Sundowns to the top of the Betway Premiership table with nine points from three games, while Chiefs dropped to fourth place with six points from their three matches.
