Mamelodi Sundowns secured their place in the Carling Knockout Cup final with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Marumo Gallants.
The match remained scoreless until the second half when Lucas Ribeiro converted a penalty in the 53rd minute, giving Sundowns the lead. The Brazillian striker coolly chipped the ball past Washington Arubi after Peter Shalulile’s shot was handled by Sibusiso Sikhosana.
Gallants pushed for an equalizer, with Thapelo Dhludhlu coming close, but couldn’t beat Bafana Bafana shotstopper Ronwen Williams.
In the dying moments of the match, Neo Maema sealed the deal for Sundowns, slotting home a second goal to ensure their spot in the final.
Sundowns will now face Magesi FC in the final on Saturday, November 23rd at the Free State Stadium. Magesi shocked Richards Bay 1-0 in their semi-final to reach the final.
