Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka has opened up about his contentious move to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020. The transfer, which occurred during a heated title race, caused a significant uproar among Amakhosi fans.
Maluleka clarified that while the timing of his departure was unfortunate, the decision was largely out of his hands.
I wanted to finish what I started [at Chiefs], which was win the league and then move, and that couldn’t happen, unfortunately. It was unfortunate [because] we couldn’t agree on terms,” he said on 947 with Robert Marawa.
His exit coincided with a dramatic downturn for Chiefs, who relinquished their league lead to Sundowns.
The midfielder played a pivotal role for the Glamour Boys, making 168 appearances, scoring 11 goals, and providing 24 assists.
