Chiefs Fail To Bring
Musona Back
Knowledge Musona’s proposed return to Kaizer Chiefs has
officially been called off. It was reported that the loan deal from
Hoffenheim was at risk of collapsing, with the striker eager to forge a career
in Europe. Musona’s agent Mike Makaab has now confirmed his client will not be
returning to Naturena. Makaab, of Prosport International, released a statement,
which said: “It is important for all parties involved that we put an end to the
speculation surrounding the possible transfer of Knowledge Musona from
Hoffenheim to Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung explained
further. “After a long, protracted negotiation with Hoffenheim for Knowledge
Musona to come back to Kaizer Chiefs on loan for another season, we’d like to
announce that the negotiations were not successful due to time constraints. We
will however review the negotiations for the next window period.”Musona netted
16 goals in 25 starts for the Glamour Boys during a loan spell last season.
Quality Talent Sports CEO Tim Sukazi has finally filed papers in court that
reveal that he’s suing Lehlohonolo Majoro for R1.8 million. It was reported
in June that Sukazi was going ahead with legal action against Majoro. And The
Star now reports that Sukazi has filed the papers at the South Gauteng High
Court. Sukazi is suing the Orlando Pirates striker for breach of contract
following Majoro’s move from Kaizer Chiefs to Orlando Pirates earlier this
year. Majoro signed a contract with Sukazi on August 12, 2010 for the company
to oversee his career. The agreement stated that Sukazi’s company was to get a
10 percent cut of the gross annual remuneration Majoro was to get from any deals
he signed, or 10 percent from transfer fees. The contract was terminated two
years later in August 2012. However, Sukazi claims that the two parties then
entered into a verbal agreement last January, on the same terms as the written
agreement and as a result, Sukazi began negotiating with SuperSport United for
Majoro to join the Tshwane club. Majoro, though, decided to join Pirates.
Sukazi is, according to the report, aggrieved that at the time Majoro sealed
the deal with Pirates, he was in the process of negotiating the footballer’s
transfer from Kaizer Chiefs to SuperSport United – a R15 890 000 four-year
contract. Sukazi claims in court papers filed that he’s entitled to R1 589 000
– the 10 percent commission he would have earned in terms of the multi-million-rand
SuperSport deal that fell by the wayside. Sukazi is also claiming R225 000 he
says he lent Majoro last November, placing his total claim against the star at
R1 814 000. When contacted by the newspaper for comment, Majoro declined to do
so.
With the transfer window closing on
Friday, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his team is done with
signing players. The Brazilians have been the busiest team in the transfer
market bringing in eight new players during the current window period. They
have brought in three more players that were signed during the January transfer
window to bring the number of new signings at the club to 11. But Mosimane says
he won’t be bringing in anyone else before the window closes on Friday. Players
expected to leave Sundowns are Bryce Moon, Edward Manqele and Rashid Sumaila,
while others have been loaned out.
Vasco da Gama have completed the signing
of veteran striker Aleni Lebyane while Samuel Julies has returned to the club
from Mamelodi Sundowns. Lebyane has signed on a season-long deal with an
option of another year, while the terms of Julies’ deal remain unspecified. The
33 year-old forward Lebyane has found no luck in the PSL since leaving
Mpumalanga Black Aces with training stints at Chippa United and Moroka Swallows
all ending in nothing. Vasco have also signed former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper
Steven Hoffman, with Kenny Gertse, the general manager at Vasco, confirming the
signing of all the new players. Vasco have also brought in Nicholas Mynhardt on
loan from Kaizer Chiefs while Tumelo Mopedi has also joined after battling to
break through at Aces last season. The
Cape Town club have thus added to the likes of Danleigh Borman, Sibusiso
Mxoyana, Johannes Motlhaping, Tshowana Mokonyana and Sibusiso Mokoena, who have
all been recruited for the 2014/15 season.
Veteran midfielder Marawaan Bantam will
continue his career at Cape Town All Stars after helping the club gain
promotion to the First Division. Bantam has now been handed another year
extension to his contract and has been registered by the NFD newcomers. The
36-year-old joined the Cape Town club two years ago after leaving Mpumalanga
Black Aces following a serious ankle injury that threatened to end his career.
Bantam played PSL football for Santos and Bidvest Wits.
Tottenham Hotspur
defender Bongani Khumalo will soon start full training again after a lengthy
spell on the sidelines with a knee injury. The 27-year-old ruptured his
patella tendon in Bafana Bafana’s 5-0 friendly loss to Brazil at Soccer City on
March 5. However, Khumalo is on the
way back, according to his agent Glyn Binkin.
Mamelodi Sundowns striker Eleazar Rodgers is expected to
conclude personal terms with Platinum Stars before the end of the week. Dikwena
are bringing in Rodgers as part of the swap deal that saw Mogakolodi Ngele move
to Chloorkop on a five-year contract. Ngele was loaned back to Stars but
Rodgers remains at Sundowns while negotiating personal terms with Dikwena. Last season Stars won the MTN8 and
Telkom Knockout. But this season with players like Issa Sarr, Lindokuhle
Mbatha, Siphelele Mthembu and Benson Mhlongo having left, the club has yet to
replace them. However, Nke says the club will sign three more players before
the end of the transfer window.
Veteran striker Portia Modise struck a
hat-trick as Banyana Banyana beat Zambia 4-0 in a friendly at Nkoloma Stadium
in Lusaka on Sunday. Modise, who plays her club football for Sasol League
outfit Croesus, scored her treble after the break, with Shiwe Nongwanya getting
the opener for Vera Pauw’s side. This was the fifth match Banyana have played
as part of their preparations for the African Women’s Championships that will
be hosted by Namibia from 11-25 October. Banyana travel back to South Africa on
Monday afternoon to continue with their camp ahead of their next assignment in
Polokwane against Tanzania on 31 August.
Orlando Pirates have been drawn as the
home team for the MTN8 Final against Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs on September
20, at a venue yet to be determined. The draw took place after Chiefs
completed a 5-0 aggregate victory over last year’s winners Platinum Stars with
a 3-0 triumph at Soccer City on Sunday afternoon. As hosts, Pirates – who beat
Bidvest Wits 5-1 in their semi-final, will have the choice of locker rooms, and
also wear their home strip.
BidVest Wits have
completed the loan deal that will take Botswana international Ofentse Nato to
Spanish La Liga’s sister club Atletico de Kolkata. Atletico de Kolkata will
play in the new Indian Premier League – due to run from next month up to the
end of the year. Wits CEO Jose
Ferreira confirmed that all paperwork has since been signed. Nato joined Wits
two years ago but battled to establish himself at the club before he was then
loaned out to Mpumalanga Black Aces last season where he managed to play
regularly. Nato will join other
former PSL stars Fikru Tefera Lemessa and Isaac Chansa in India. Meanwhile, Katlego Pule’s immediate
future at the club remains uncertain though the club is keen to move him out on
loan. Pule was recently with Ajax
Cape Town but couldn’t iron out a deal there.
Edward Manqele is taking Mamelodi
Sundowns to the League’s Dispute Resolution Chamber in his bid to leave the
club. Manqele, who recently turned down a loan move to Chippa United, was
last month placed on a special training programme by Downs. The Brazilians
claimed Manqele was overweight. However, the ex-Free State Stars striker says
the move was orchestrated to derail his efforts to find another team. Manqele’s
agent, Josiah Mphono, says his client is now seeking a legal solution to his
frustrations at Chloorkop.
The 2014 Nedbank Ke Yona Team which will face Nedbank Cup champions Orlando

players. The second season of the Nedbank Ke Yona Team search saw
footballers from across the country respond en masse. More than 43 000 total entries,
and 30 000 unique entries were recorded during the national trials held earlier
this year. In total 3 900 players were invited to the six regional trials and a
select group of 48 players were chosen for the boot camps and various
elimination rounds. Thereafter it has been months of rigorous training to
prepare the final 18-man squad which was hand-picked by seasoned coaches Shakes
Mashaba, Khabo Zondo, Owen da Gama and Mike Mangena. Coach Owen da Gama
expressed his satisfaction on the selection of the team but also sent a warning
to Pirates ahead of the match. The Ke Yona team have a friendly coming up again

Sameehg Doutie has completed his move to
Bidvest Wits from SuperSport United. As reported on Thursday, Wits have
released Ryan Chapman to SuperSport and Doutie’s deal was yet to be finalised. However,
Wits CEO Jose Ferreira has confirmed that Doutie now belongs to Wits.
New Bafana Bafana
coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba has named his squad to play Sudan and Nigeria in
2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers early next month. South Africa take
on Sudan in Khartoum on September 5 before hosting the Super Eagles five days
later in Cape Town. Mashaba, who has recruited Owen da Gama to serve as his assistant,
has handed call-ups to youngsters such as SuperSport United goalkeeper Dumisani
Msibi and Ajax Cape Town’s Ayabulela Magqwaka and Rivaldo Coetzee. Notable
exclusions include Europe-based stars Thulani Serero and May Mahlangu, as well
as established Absa Premiership performers such as Tsepo Masilela, Tefu
Mashamaite and Teko Modise. Mashaba, who is starting his fourth spell with the
national side, was named as Gordon Igesund’s successor on July 26.

Mpumalanga Black Aces have signed Ghana
international Kwabena Adusei on a long-term contract – as well as James Bell
and Darren Lurie. Adusei, who was formerly at Asante Kotoko in his
homeland, caught AmaZayoni’s eye with his displays at the African Nations
Championship, staged in South Africa earlier this year. The 27-year-old
defender has been training with Aces but is still waiting on his work permit,
the club revealed on their official website. Meanwhile, Bell, 21, has been on
the books of Ajax Cape Town, Thanda Royal Zulu, Chippa United, FC Cape Town and
Golden Arrows, while fellow attacker Lurie was at Moroka Swallows last season. Both
players have penned two-year deals with Clive Barker’s side.
Chippa United are chasing the signature
of defender Thabo September from SuperSport United. September, who has
since been demoted as captain at United, may well be looking to going back to the
same province in the Eastern Cape where he made his name at Umtata Bush Bucks. The
Matsatsantsa defender is leading the list of players that the Chilli Boys’
chairman Chippa Mpengesi is looking to bring to their new base in Port
Elizabeth, before the close of the transfer period at the end of August. According
to a source close to the club, Chippa have already approached SuperSport over
the services of the defender from Knysna. The 31-year-old has been at the
Pretoria-side since 2006 and has three league titles, as well as the 2012
Nedbank Cup to his name.
Ajax Cape Town coach
Roger de Sa expects George Akpabio to join Chippa United before the transfer
window closes at the end of the month. The clubs have held lengthy talks
over a deal after Akpabio finished top scorer at the Chilli Boys during a loan
spell at Philippi Stadium last season. And
De Sa doubts the Nigerian striker will stay at Ikamva.
Mpumalanga Black Aces
have lost out on signing Francis Kasonde after the Zambia international took up
a one-year contract in India. The defender has teamed up with I-League side
Salgaocar for the 2014/15 season. Kasonde,
who was recently on the radar of Clive Barker’s Aces, spent last term at
Israeli club Hapoel Ra’anana and becomes the third Zambian player to head to
India in the new campaign. The other
two are ex-Orlando Pirates star Isaac Chansa and Kondwani Mtongo, who are both
at Shillong Lajong FC.
Mamelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe wants to take the team back to
their spiritual home and stage games at HM Pitje Stadium. The Brazilians
have not played at the Mamelodi-based venue for many years, a fact that has not
gone down well with many of the club’s die-hard fans. Sundowns are currently
using Loftus Stadium in Pretoria as their home ground, while their offices and
training ground are based at Chloorkop in Midrand. Motsepe, though, is eager to
bring Downs closer to their supporters in Mamelodi, as well as in Soshanguve. Meanwhile,
the mining magnate conceded that he has little time to run the Premiership
champions as he juggles his business interests with his outreach work.
SAFA met the Sports
Portfolio Committee in Parliament today where it briefed MPs from various
political parties on a variety of issues. Led by Dr Danny Jordaan, SAFA
presented its financial turnaround strategy in which it has moved from the red
to a projected considerable profit in the 2014 Financial Year. The Association also gave details of
the new broadcast partner Siyaya TV to the House, explaining the tremendous
opportunities in the broadcast environment which sports federations need to tap
into. The broadcast deal between
SAFA and Siyaya TV kicks in next year.
Black Leopards have completed the
signing of Morgan Shivambu, while former skipper Mongezi Bobe has also returned
following a difficult season away at Free State Stars. The two players have
been training with the club since the start of pre-season and will both be
available for selection when Leopards go back to their traditional home
Thohoyandou Stadium to host Golden Arrows in the opening First Division match.
Leopards have not used Thohoyandou for the past six years due to a lack of
maintenance. Shivambu, an experienced midfielder, has recently battled in his
career since being offloaded by Platinum Stars, but will be hoping to rekindle
the good times he had at Moroka Swallows during his peak. Also signed is young
defensive midfielder Kgotso ‘Jali’ Mogagabe on a five year deal. Mogagabe was
previously at the School of Excellence. Staying put at the club is Zimbabwean striker
Brian Amidu, who recently trained with Swallows in the hope of winning a move
back to the PSL.
South African players
abroad wrap
Kagisho Dikgacoi made his first
appearance of the season at the weekend but could not help English Championship
side Cardiff City avoid defeat as they went down 1-0 to Wolves.
Tokelo Rantie was
again a second-half substitute for Bournemouth in the English Championship as
they lost 3-2 at Blackburn Rovers, their fine start to the season eroded by
back-to-back defeats.
Steven Pienaar
was forced off in Everton’s 2-2 home draw with Arsenal after just 10 minutes
through injury in a blow for his side who were further frustrated by letting in
two late goals to allow the Gunners a point.
Dean Furman started for Doncaster
Rovers in their 1-0 win at Colchester United in League One, but left-back Kgosi Ntlhe missed Peterborough
United’s victory by the same margin at Bradford City through injury.
Thulani Serero
again had to settle for a place on the bench, making a second half appearance
as Ajax Amsterdam lost 3-1 at home to PSV Eindhoven. Serero has made just a
single start so far in the campaign.
Anele Ngcongca
was in the Genk side that won 3-2 at home to Gent on Friday night, along with
the player he allegedly was involved in a drunken brawl with last weekend,
Tornike Okriashvili. Both players were fined 10 000 euros for the incident that
occurred in Ngcongca’s home and there would have been some awkwardness in the
celebration for the Bafana right-back after Okriashvili scored the winning goal
against Gent. From this week Ngcongca will also have a new coach as former
Glasgow Rangers, Aston Villa and Scotland tactician Alex McLeish takes over the
side.
Andile Jali won
his battle with compatriot Darren Keet
as Oostende defeated Kortrijk in their Belgian league match. Both players
started for their respective sides.
May Mahlangu was
on target for Swedish side Goteborg as they won 2-1 at Falkenbergs, the
midfielder netting his fifth goal of the season.
Daylon Claasen
came off the bench to help his German Bundesliga II side 1860 Munich salvage a
point in a 2-2 draw with Heidenheim, the club’s first of the season.
Tiya
Shipalanescored an injury-time winner for his American second-tier side Carolina
Railhawks as they won 1-0 at Tampa Bay Rowdies. It is a fourth of the season
for the 28-year-old from Tzaneen.
