Laporta promises more defensive signings

Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta has revealed the Catalans are working on bolstering their defence ahead of the new season.

Barca have made four high-profile signings this transfer window – bringing in striker Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, midfielder Franck Kessie from AC Milan, defender Andreas Christensen from Chelsea and winger Raphinha from Leeds United.
However, Laporta says their work in the transfer market is by no means done as they are still looking to make a couple more defensive signings. Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Chelsea duo Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso as well as Monaco’s Caio Henrique are defenders being strongly linked with a move to the Camp Nou.
“Now we are going to work on defence,” Laporta stated.
“Xavi has us alert to a series of players and I hope that they can bring Cules (Barca fans) more joy.

“We have competed with teams like PSG and Chelsea to sign Robert [Lewandowski] and he wanted to come here. You have to be thankful for that. That and the maximum pressure that he has had to endure.

“We want to make a competitive team, [and] give Xavi the tools to have a good team and I think we are on the right track.”
