La Liga: Game Week 6 Preview

Real Madrid’s perfect start to their domestic season continues, with a come from behind victory in front of the home faithful. Current defending La Liga champions, Barcelona, will not surrender their crown without a fight. Indeed, the Blaugrana put on a five-star performance, with loanee Joao Felix finding the back of the net. Girona have been in devastating form in front of goal this season, with only Barca outscoring Míchel’s outfit. Athletic Club complete the current top four of the Spanish topflight. At the opposite end, Sevilla picked up their first win of the season, to lift them out of the relegation zone. More impressively, it came with a clean sheet courtesy of summer signing Sergio Ramos. Los Nervionenses participate in midweek Champions League action, where they will look to gain some momentum as they look to kick start their season.

(51/20) Alaves | Draw (21/10) | Athletic Club (5/4) (21:00)

The San Mames side have netted two or more goals in three of their previous four league outings – conceding just twice during that spell. Undefeated since opening day, Athletic currently make up the Champions League spots. The Lions are the only topflight club yet to concede on their travels and I don’t think that happens against a limp Alavez attack.

Athletic Bilbao on the double chance at 2/7 is the move.

(19/20) Girona | Draw (47/20) | Mallorca (32/10) (14:00)

Girona have gotten their domestic campaign off to a flyer. The home side currently occupy third place in the league standings, with four wins and a draw across their opening five. The international break has done them more good than bad, as seen by their impressive away victory last time out.

I expect the home side to claim maximum points in this one at 19/20.

(31/20) Osasuna | Draw (23/10) | Sevilla (18/10) (16:15)

Sevilla’s all important win last time out saw them put their first points on the board. A disastrous start to the season which saw them lose their opening three league fixtures seems to have been corrected, with the international break. With Sergio Ramos in their ranks, I expect Sevilla to record a consecutive victory in this one.

Sevilla to take all three points is on at 18/10.

(7/20) Barcelona | Draw (42/10) | Celta Vigo (13/2) (18:30)

Barcelona have barely put a foot wrong since Xavi’s arrival at the helm. Despite dropping points on the opening day of the season, the Catalonia outfit have gone on to win their ensuing four league fixtures by an aggregate scoreline of 13-4. With summer transfers Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo finding the back of the net last time out, I expect one way traffic in this one.

Back the home side to take all three points at 7/20.

(19/10) Almeria | Draw (24/10) | Valencia (29/20) (21:00)

Valencia have struggled to get their season truly up and running so far, losing two of their first four La Liga matches. A statement victory last time out, wherein they put three past Atletico without reply may just be what Baraja ordered. Their hosts are still looking for their first victory this term, having lost four and drawn one at this stage.

Rooted to the foot of the table, I expect the away side to take all three points at 29/20.

(6/10) Real Sociedad | Draw (26/10) | Getafe (54/10) (14:00)

Real Sociedad currently trail Getafe on the standings by a point. An impressive transfer window has seen the likes of Andre Silva, Arsen Zakharyan and Kieran Tierney coming through the door of the home side should see them over the line in this one. Despite having nothing to show for their impressive performance at the Santiago Bernabeu last time out, Real Sociedad will have full confidence in returning to winning ways in this one.

Real Sociedad to win at 6/10.

(31/20) Rayo Vallecano | Draw (51/20) | Villarreal (17/10) (16:15)

This one has the makings of a cagey affair. Rayo Vallecano’s attack has shown promising signs. Across their opening five league fixtures, they’ve netted two or more goals on three separate occasions and take aim at a Villarreal outfit who have recorded just a single league clean sheet this season.

Back Both teams to score here, with a win for the home side at 37/10.

(17/20) Real Betis | Draw (51/20) | Cadiz (7/2) (18:30)

Real Betis and Cadiz go into this one level on points and separated by just goal difference in the La Liga standings. The home side picked up a victory against Osasuna in their final match before the international break but were picked apart by Barcelona in the resumption of domestic action.

A close encounter is anticipated, but Betis should come out on top here at 17/20.
(21/20) Las Palmas | Draw (24/10) | Granada (26/10) (18:30)

A six pointer in the relegation zone beckons in this one. The hosts are looking for their first win of the campaign and it may very well come against Granada side who have conceded 16 goals across their opening five league fixtures – the most from all topflight clubs.

Back both teams to score at 9/10
