Mamelodi Sundowns’ latest acquisition, Kobamelo Kodisang, has vowed to bring his best to the team, aiming to enhance their success.
After almost six years in Portugal with Moreirense FC, the 24-year-old midfielder returned to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and committed to a five-year contract with the club.
Kodisang’s tenure in Portugal has endowed him with substantial experience, making him a strong candidate for a spot in the starting eleven at Sundowns.
In an interview on the Sundowns Pitchside Podcast, Kodisang expressed his enthusiasm about joining Masandawana, confident that their playing style aligns with his strengths.
“I made this decision with my agent, and we agreed that Sundowns is where I should be,” Kodisang stated. “I watched some football and liked their style of play.
“Sundowns are a big team, and I have always wanted to play for them here at home. I am committed to giving the club my absolute best and seeing where it takes me.”
During his time with Moreirense, Kodisang scored 14 goals and provided eight assists, demonstrating his versatility as both a winger and a number 10. He elaborated on his playing style, saying, “I am comfortable as a winger, sometimes a number 10, because growing up, I was a midfielder.
“I played as a number 10 or number eight until I joined the first team at the now-defunct Platinum Stars. The coach there thought I was too young to play in the middle, so he moved me to the sides where there is a bit more space.”
Reflecting on his European experience, Kodisang highlighted the differences between football in Portugal and South Africa.
“The style of play is different over there. The ball moves a lot more, and the culture and everything else is quite different. Even the food tastes different,” he noted.
Kodisang had already begun his journey with Sundowns, participating in their pre-season tour in Austria. The team faced a narrow 1-0 defeat to Dynamo Kyiv, a match that provided Kodisang with his first taste of action with his new teammates.
As Kodisang looks forward to new challenges in the PSL, his determination and skill set promise to be invaluable assets to Sundowns. His experience abroad and adaptability on the field position him as a key player to watch in the upcoming season.
