Maritzburg United assistant coach Mabhuti Khenyeza could make a return from retirement by making himself available as an option up front for the side.
Khenyeza hung up his boots in early January while in the colours of AmaZulu as it paved the way for him to move to the Team of Choice as Muhsin Ertugral’s number two.
However, relegation strugglers United have been dry in front of goal and the 36-year-old is being looked at to help solve the problem.
Usuthu team manager Qedi Dlamini told Kickoff: “Maritzburg United did approach us last week and we are still communicating with them.
“Our deal with United was for Khenyeza to be their assistant coach.
“If he wants to play again, then they have to pay because he had six months left on his contact with us as a player.”
Meanwhile, the veteran’s former coach at AmaZulu Cavin Johnson encouraged the move, saying: “Honestly, it is not shocking.
“Khenyeza still has time on his side to play, so we will wait and see.”
