Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana says he’s “honoured and humbled” to be nominated as one of the best defenders in the Premier Soccer League.
Kekana was nominated alongside teammate Lyle Lakay and Cape Town City’s Thamsanqa Mkhize.
Sundowns dominated the nominees with those names put forward, including Rulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi for Coach of the Season, Andile Jali and Themba Zwane for Midfielder of the Season.
Kekana told his club’s website: “It’s a good feeling to be nominated for defender of the season. I feel really honored and humbled also. It also goes to show the effort that the team has put in this season. I think we’ve had a relatively good season and we should be proud of ourselves.
Kekana added: “Even with Lyle his numbers are amazing, he’s been exceptional for us and also it’s really a good feeling to know that the team is being recognized for what they’ve been doing this past season and it’s something that will help us in the long run to build on from.
“This season we are dominating the nominees category and we obviously want to maintain that.”
