Kaizer Chiefs would sign Darren Keet in January

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says the club would snap up Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Darren Keet in January should he be made available.

Wits coach Gavin Hunt recently revealed that the Glamour Boys were after the services of Keet, though did not give any timeline as to when he might leave the Clever Boys.

With that said, other reports have suggested the 29-year-old is keen on a move to Europe and has less interest in a move to another Premiership side.

Speaking to reporters, Middendorp said: “I heard Gavin Hunt was throwing Darren Keet on the market. If he wants to release him we can definitely take him.”

However, the German mentor added that he felt comfortable having the likes of Virgil Vries and Bruce Bvuma in goal for AmaKhosi. Itumeleng Khune is injured and misses out the rest of the season.

He concluded: “We have quality keepers even in the development. We not planning to sign anyone, besides if there’s any available.

“Why should we run around like headless chickens in this window period, we have good quality.”

Meanwhile, in other team news, Ramahlwe Mphahlele could return in 10 days from injury whereas Mario Booysen and Lebogang Manyama are set to be assessed after picking up knocks in Wednesday’s 3-2 victory over AmaZulu.
