Kaizer Chiefs have bolstered their goalkeeping department with the signing of Rwandan international Fiacre Ntwari. The 24-year-old joins the Soweto giants on a three-year deal, subject to receiving his work visa.
A Seasoned Performer
Ntwari arrives at Naturena after a successful stint with TS Galaxy in the DStv Premiership. During his final season with The Rockets, he impressed with his agility and reflexes, making 18 league appearances and keeping eight clean sheets while conceding only 15 goals.
Filling the Gap
The signing of Ntwari comes amidst uncertainty surrounding legendary goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune’s absence from pre-season training. Ntwari will compete for the starting role with Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma, and Bontle Molefe.
Endorsement from the Coaching Staff
According to reports, Chiefs’ new goalkeeper coach, Ilyes Mzoughi, played a key role in Ntwari’s signing. Having scouted him before, Mzoughi is confident the Rwandan number one will significantly strengthen the goalkeeping department.
A Rising Star
Ntwari’s impressive ball-playing skills were another factor in Chiefs’ decision. He began his professional career in Rwanda, progressing through clubs like Intare FC, Marines FC, and AS Kigali before earning a national team call-up in 2017.
A New Chapter
This move to Kaizer Chiefs represents a major step forward for Ntwari’s career. He will have the opportunity to compete at a higher level and showcase his abilities on a bigger stage. Expected to join his teammates in Istanbul for pre-season training soon, Ntwari’s agility, reflexes, and ball-playing skills could prove to be valuable assets for Amakhosi.
Solid Addition
With 32 appearances across all competitions for TS Galaxy last season, Ntwari brings a wealth of experience. He boasts 13 clean sheets while conceding just 29 goals during that time.
Ntwari’s heroics in the Carling Knockout Cup, where he saved a crucial penalty to help TS Galaxy reach the quarter-finals, hint at the kind of impact he can make at Naturena.
Ntwari becomes the second signing for Chiefs this season, following the arrival of defender Bongani Sam from Orlando Pirates.
