Young defender Rushwin Dortley has signed for Kaizer Chiefs, the club announced. The 22-year-old has become a hot property in South African football since his debut for Cape Town Spurs in 2020.
Despite his young age, Dortley already boasts over 100 appearances in top-flight and second-tier South African leagues, making him a seasoned player. Reports suggest clubs like SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC chased his signature, but Chiefs emerged victorious.
Dortley’s impressive performances, including captaining the national team at the Cosafa Cup, also attracted interest from Major League Soccer, Israel, and Denmark. He adds valuable competition to Chiefs’ defense as a natural left-footed center-back, potentially challenging Thatayaone Ditlhokwe.
“We would like to thank Rushwin (Dortley) and his family for the belief and trust they entrusted in us over the years,” reads the club’s statement.
“With their support and patience, we were able to mould Rushwin into the great player and person that he is. We wish Rushwin many blessings for his future endeavours.”
This signing follows Chiefs’ acquisitions of Bongani Sam and Fiacre Ntwari. Cape Town Spurs confirmed Dortley’s move on Thursday, solidifying a major coup for Amakhosi, who have secured one of Africa’s most promising defensive talents.
