Kaizer Chiefs Eye ex-Sundowns Midfielder After Failed Morocco Move

Free agent midfielder Bongani Zungu is back in South Africa, presenting a fresh opportunity for Kaizer Chiefs who have expressed interest in signing him.

Zungu’s proposed move to Wydad Casablanca in Morocco, where he would reunite with former coach Rulani Mokwena, fell through. This opens the door for Chiefs, who have been keeping tabs on the experienced midfielder.

Unattached and available, Zungu could be on his way to Naturena to join coach Nasreddine Nabi’s squad, who were recently dealt a 4 nil defeat by Sundowns in the Carling Knockout quart-final.

“Rhulani Mokwena’s Wydad AC have decided against signing former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns star Bongani Zungu,” reported Goal.com.

Reports indicate Wydad AC ultimately decided against signing Zungu, who has been without a club since leaving Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2023 season.

If a deal materializes, Zungu would link up with former Sundowns teammate Gaston Sirino, who signed with Chiefs earlier this year.

The 32-year-old boasts a diverse career spanning five clubs, including stints abroad with Vitoria Guimaraes, Amiens, and Rangers. Could Kaizer Chiefs be his next destination?
