Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is optimistic about defeating Mamelodi Sundowns to secure a place in the Carling Knockout Cup semi-finals.
Amakhosi advanced comfortably, defeating SuperSport United 4-0 in their last 16 clash, while the Brazilians overpowered Golden Arrows with a 5-0 win.
Sundowns have nearly a perfect record in the Betway Premiership, winning all but one of their matches, whereas Chiefs have only managed two wins from their first five league games.
In their recent league matches, Manqoba Mngqithi’s Sundowns defeated Cape Town City 3-0, while Nabi’s Chiefs settled for a 2-2 draw with newly-promoted Magesi.
Chiefs narrowly missed a better outcome in their latest league game against Sundowns, which ended in a 2-1 win for the latter.
Ahead of the weekend’s game, Nabi said in the Citizen: “If you remember the last game against Sundowns, it was a very good game of football. There was a lot of entertainment, technically and tactically for both teams.
“We hope and believe this game is (also) going to be entertaining for all South African fans.
“Sundowns have been one of the biggest teams in Africa over these last years. But that doesn’t take away the fact that we are Chiefs. We are coming into this game with a lot of confidence and we will do everything to win this game and qualify (for the semi-finals).
“We are confident in our abilities.”
