Amakhosi defeated Mamelodi Sundowns in a dramatic penalty shootout, 5-4, after a goalless draw in the final. Earlier, they had defeated Golden Arrows 2-0 in the semi-finals.

The clash ended goalless after 90 minutes, with the Soweto giants holding their nerve to win 5-4 in sudden death. Chiefs made a few changes to their starting XI following their victory over Golden Arrows, with goalkeeper Brandon Peterson, Inacio Miguel, Dillon Solomons, and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo all earning starts. Indeed, fringe players like Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Tebogo Potsane, Pule Mmodi, Ashley Du Preez were given valuable playing time on the day.

Kaze expressed satisfaction with the tournament, stating that it provided an opportunity for fringe players to gain valuable minutes and build momentum ahead of the upcoming league fixtures.

“It was a good game to have everyone get some minutes in their legs,” Kaze said. “Even those who haven’t had an opportunity to play a lot of games. But as well it was a very good day for us because we finished the day crowned with the trophy.

“It might not mean a lot because it’s a one-day tournament. But we believe that it’s going to give us the boost we needed going forward into the league games.”

Chiefs will now turn their attention to the upcoming Betway Premiership match against Richards Bay FC on November 27th at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
