With reports linking Ashley Du Preez to a potential move to Portugal, the Kaizer Chiefs forward says the speculation has only motivated him to work harder.
The speedy attacker is reportedly on the radar of Portuguese side Vitória SC, who are keen to bring the former Stellenbosch FC forward on board.
Having recently returned from injury, which saw him miss several matches for Amakhosi, Du Preez is eager to make up for lost time.
“Definitely, it motivates you as a player. There’s a reason why they are interested in you, and all you can do is work hard at the club you’re currently with,” Du Preez told IOL.
“This is a big club – Kaizer Chiefs – so my focus has always been here.”
With only four goals to his name this season, Du Preez is determined to increase his tally and help Chiefs improve their form.
“I want to improve and help the team win as many games as possible. Personally, I also want to work on my finishing and contribute more goals,” he said.
“At the start of the season, every player sets goals. But when injuries come along, you have to reset, refocus, and get back to scoring.”
The 27-year-old will be hoping to lead the line when Amakhosi host Cape Town City at FNB Stadium on Wednesday, as Chiefs aim to secure maximum points.
