The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced that tickets for the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinal match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns that is set to take place at FNB Stadium on Saturday have been sold out.
This comes hot on the heels of the Wednesday announcement that over 70% of the tickets had been purchased for the showdown.
This is the second successive Chiefs/Sundowns sellout as they had met in the same venue on September 28 in a highly-contested league match that ended 2-1 in favour of Mamelodi Sundowns.
Amakhosi have since played four matches after that encounter, recorded two victories and fell short once in all competitions.
Meanwhile, The Brazilians have managed to win three and suffer one loss in their four matches across all competitions.
Sundowns senior coach Steve Komphela lamented the negative effects of fans coming late to the stadium as it affects the team’s preparations. He urged fans to arrive at the stadium early to avoid missing out on the action.
“I must also convey a message that the ambience and environment were made perfect by supporters. Only they can come earlier. Only they can come earlier because it’s got a whole lot of other dynamics in it. But when they delay the start of the match, it affects your match-day routine,” said Komphela.
“Because you would say in preparation for a match, you say the match is at 3pm. What time is your pre-match meal? What time is your pre-match talk? The minute the match gets postponed or delayed a bit, then it will affect your pre-match meeting, departure from the hotel, and pre-match meal.” Komphela concluded.
Gates will be open at 15:00 and a number of artists have been line-up to entertain the crown prior to the 6pm kick-off time.
