Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro lauded midfielder Karim Kimvuidi for his stellar showing in their 4-0 win over Disciples FC in the CAF Champions League.
Kimvuidi, a DR Congo youth international, sealed the win with a stoppage-time goal, capping off a dominant display by the Buccaneers at Orlando Stadium.
The match began with an own goal from Disciples FC, followed by strikes from Relebohile Mofokeng and Patrick Maswanganyi, giving Pirates a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time.
Kimvuidi, who has been fighting for playing time in a highly competitive squad, made the most of his opportunity by finding the back of the net in the closing moments.
Riveiro acknowledged the challenges Kimvuidi faces in securing minutes on the pitch, especially in a team brimming with talent. “It’s difficult to get playing time in this group, particularly in the position where he’s accustomed to playing,” Riveiro said.
“But that’s what players need to do—make an impact whenever they’re on the field.”
He further emphasized the importance of making the most of limited opportunities. “Players must show who they are during the week in training and seize their chances during matches,” Riveiro added.
“Karim’s goal was a positive sign, and it will boost his confidence going forward.”
Kimvuidi’s performance not only thrilled the fans but also demonstrated his potential within the team.
Although typically known for his playmaking abilities, his goal was a welcome surprise. “It’s good news for all of us,” Riveiro concluded, “And we’re all happy to see Karim happy.”
Since joining Orlando Pirates in July 2023 from the now-defunct Maritzburg United, Kimvuidi has scored three goals in 25 appearances.
