Jose Riveiro says his almost-perfect start to the Betway Premiership season is not about breaking records, but about winning every game like any other club.
The Spaniard has won five of his opening fixtures in the league – putting them on top of the log. The Buccaneers have also already won a trophy after claiming the MTN8 Cup for the third consecutive season, though they were knocked-out of the Carling Knockout Cup.
“A coach wants to win every game. But it’s not because they want to establish a certain record,” Riveiro told IOL.
“Those are things that happen when you are not coaching anymore and you’re out of this business. You want to look back and realise that you got some important things.”
The Bucs coach adds that what’s important for them is always the next game, with a league meeting against TS Galaxy coming up at the Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.
“Right now, the only thing that matters is that we play again (tomorrow) against TS Galaxy. It’s another three points to play for. It’s going to be a tough one,” he continued.
“If we get another one (win), we need to rest and prepare. We’ll check the numbers at the end of the season to see if what we are doing right now is good enough to achieve what we want.”
Pirates are at the summit of the league table with 15 points, three points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns from the same number of games, while Chippa United are in third spot with 10 points after playing six games.
