Pirates boss Kjell Jonevret says that his side are fully focused on finishing off the season strongly.

With a possible Nedbank Cup final and top eight finish on the cards, Pirates head coach Kjell Jonevret says thoughts of next season are on the back-burner.

After three months in charge at Pirates, the Swedish coach finds Buccaneers within three points of the top eight in the league with two matches to play, while they are one game away from going to the Nedbank Cup final.

While still getting to know his players, Jonevret will also likely be looking to put his own stamp on the squad next season by making some changes, and he’ll also be able to enjoy a full pre-season with his players.

But when asked by KickOff about his plans for the off-season and the next campaign, Jonevret says his main focus is to ensure a strong end to the current season.

“I haven’t talked so much about [player transfers], but of course when you are in this situation you’ve got ideas already from the beginning,” Jonevret said.

“It should be really nice to start the new pre-season and I’m looking forward to that. But right now my focus is to try to play as well as possible in these games in the league and do everything we can to extend the season by an extra month for the [Nedbank] Cup final,” he added.

Bucs host Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday night and finish their league campaign with an away game against Golden Arrows on May 27.

In between, they also face Arrows in a Nedbank Cup semi-final encounter in Durban this coming Sunday.
