“I’VE BEEN HAPPY SINCE DAY ONE”- RONWEN WILLIAMS ON HIS CONTRACT EXTENSION

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was excited to be rewarded with a new contract by the DStv Premiership champions.

The 32-year-old Bafana Bafana skipper joined the Brazilians in 2022 and has gone on to make 79 appearances for the club, playing a significant role in their successes over the past few years.

His current deal was set to expire at the end of the current campaign but he has since penned a long-term deal to keep him at Chloorkop for another four years.

Reflecting on his new contract, a delighted Williams expressed his gratitude to the Brazilians.

He told the club’s website: “I’m over the moon, it just shows the belief that the club has in me, it shows the value that I’ve brought to the club.

“There is so much that we can achieve as a team and I’m looking forward to it with lots of excitement.”

Williams added that he had no hesitation in signing a new deal.

“It was an easy decision for me, I’ve been happy since day one,” the former SuperSport United shotstopper explained.

“The club has helped me grow as a football player and as a person, so it was a no brainer for me [to extend].

“[The extension] definitely gives us confidence to end the season on a high, especially now towards the latter stages, this serves as a morale boost to give me that extra push to try and add a few more trophies to the cabinet.”
