Former Chippa United defender Zuko Mdunyelwa has sent a stern warning to his side to not undermine the underperforming Golden Arrows in their next clash that will be taking place at Mpumalanga Stadium this Wednesday evening.
Despite clinching their seventh consecutive league title following their 5-1 thrashing of Kaizer Chiefs this past Thursday at FNB Stadium, Amasandawana are gunning for maximum points in their match against Arrows in a bid to make history by finishing the season without tasting a league defeat.
“I think this season, since we are unbeaten, every team that’s coming up against us would want to beat us. But us, we’re not only focusing on that or any other team. We are more focused on us, on what we can do, especially the stuff that we can control.” Said Mdunyelwa.
Mdunyelwa also shared his thought on the tactical approach of the opposition which is currently managed by former Sundowns boss Steve Komphela adding that they are not expecting an easy game as they are fighting to finish the season in a better position.
“Golden Arrows is usually a team that’s in the top eight. Coming into this game, since they are outside of the top eight, they would attack, and they would fight for everything because they want to get back into the top eight. So, it’s not a team that we should undermine or think that it will be an easy game. We still have to go there and fight and earn the right to play.
The KwaZulu-Natal side has not had a good season, the sequence of bad results has seen them dropping to the 11th position on the log standings with 32 points, a top eight finish may still be on the horizon for them should they avoid dropping points in the next four games that they are left with.
Arrows are coming to this match with revenge on their minds following a 4-0 demolition that they suffered in their last meeting against the Brazilians. It is important to note that this will be Komphela’s first clash with his former employers and we look to see if he can pull out a miracle and spoil the party by handing the visitors their first loss of the season.
