Italy vs Switzerland Preview

Italian midfielder Jorginho

The Italians are on a 28-game undefeated streak and in their last nine games they have not conceded a goal. The Swiss are known for strong performances in tournaments and should make it difficult for the Italians in this encounter.

Switzerland 5/1

Italy

The Italians under Roberto Mancini are in a purple patch of form. Led by veteran Juventus centre back Giorgio Chiellini, who is partnered by Leonardo Bonucci, the Italians look rock solid at the back and with the attacking prowess of Lorenzo Insigne and Ciro Immobile, they do look like they can go all the away.

Against Turkey they showed how good they were. They were patient and waited for the gaps to open, and eventually in the second half, they were rewarded scoring three goals.

They face a different type of opposition here. They face a team that has a bit of everything and should find it a lot tougher than their opening game.

Switzerland

On their day, the Swiss can take on any team and beat them, and against Wales, they can really look back and think that the draw result was actually two points dropped as opposed to a point gained.

They will be looking to Xherdan Shaqiri’s creativity to unlock this Italian defence and will also be looking to Granit Xhaka to try and strike a few long-range shots from outside the box in the hope of being the first team to score against them in more than nine games.

It does look to be a tough ask for the Swiss, but they have been known for extraordinary results when you least expect them. With Switzerland really needing a win, anything is possible.

Prediction: Draw (47/20)

With the Italians on such a good run of form, how can one go against them? With that being said, over the years the Swiss have been known for pulling off a few extraordinary results when you least expect it.  I am expecting the first half to end the same way it did for both these teams in their first encounters, 0-0, hence the reason I am tipping the First Half Draw at 21/20.
