Italian Serie A Preview

Juventus who are 8 points clear with six games to go, look destined for a 6th consecutive Scudetto.

After Roma’s slip-up against Atalanta – being held to a 1-1 draw on home soil – it’s fair to say this is Juve’s season to lose. The Old Lady are eight points clear with six games to go and I doubt they will mess up when they’re on the brink of claiming yet another Scudetto. And just like how the league winner is almost inevitable, the same can be said of the bottom three sides fighting relegation. Nonetheless, football can be unpredictable, so I suggest we sit back, relax and enjoy the ‘beautiful game’.

7/20 Atalanta | Draw 38/10 | Bologna 7/1 (18:00)

Atalanta may have just killed off any hopes of Roma winning the Serie A this season after claiming a point at the Stadio Olimpico last Saturday afternoon. La Dea will return to home soil where they have won 10 of their 15 matches. Bologna have been poor on their travels with just three wins from 16 outings. The home side have won four of the last five meetings between them and have looked solid defensively this term. Get on the Home Win to Nil market at even money.

31/20 Fiorentina | 49/20 | Inter Milan 31/20 (20:45)

Fiorentina fell to their first home defeat of the season last time out, going down 2-1 at the hands of Empoli. Their opponents, Inter Milan, following back-to-back defeats, played to a thrilling 2-2 stalemate with rival’s AC Milan. In the last nine meetings between the sides, Fiorentina have bagged five victories while Inter Milan have claimed four, including the reverse tie, winning 4-2. Another eye-catching stat is the goals scored between these teams in that process.Eight of those nine clashes produced Over 2.5 Goals – follow the trend and get on the Totals market at 11/20.

Sunday 23 April

57/10 Sassuolo | 36/10 | Napoli 4/10 (12:30)

Sassuolo returned to winning ways after a run of six matches without a victory with a hard-fought 2-1 home win over Sampdoria. It was only their sixth victory on their ground this campaign and they will be looking to build on that here. Napoli come to town in top form as they are undefeated in their last six games, including consecutive wins, scoring six goals without conceding. They also have the best away record in the league with 10 wins from 15 matches. An attacking game of football is on the cards with both teams tipped to find the back of the net at 15/20.

2/11 Lazio | 57/10 | Palermo 25/2 (15:00)

Lazio have been excellent on their ground with 10 wins from 16 games and come into this clash off the back of an entertaining 2-2 draw at Genoa. Relegation-bound Palermo are winless in their last nine matches, including seven losses and two draws. Palermo’s season is just about dead and buried and judging by their horrendous record on the road, it’s highly unlikely that they will be capable upsetting the applecart. Lazio are tipped on the Halftime/Fulltime Win at 11/20.

17/20 Udinese | 26/10 | Cagliari 29/10 (15:00)

Following a 3-0 thrashing at Napoli last weekend, Udinese will gladly return to the Dacia Arena, where they have won two matches on the bounce, scoring seven goals and conceding just once in that process. Cagliari are off the back of a 4-0 victory at home against Chievo and will be confident coming into this match. Goals are expected from both sides, so it would be well worth a punt back Both Teams to Score at 11/20.

17/20 Sampdoria | 26/10 | Crotone 29/10 (15:00)

Sampdoria have been average at best on home soil this season. Next up for them is relegation-threatened Crotone, who have travelled poorly with just one win and 12 losses from 16 games, scoring 10 goals and conceding 29 times. The reverse tie ended 1-1 but with home advantage, Sampdoria are tipped to bag all three points. The home win should be backed.

7/20 AC Milan | 39/10 | Empoli 13/2 (15:00)

AC Milan fought back from two goals down last Saturday to rescue a 2-2 draw at the San Siro against fierce rivals Inter Milan to extend their unbeaten run to four matches. They will be back at the San Siro on Sunday, where they have won their last four matches, scoring 10 goals and conceding just twice. After 10 matches without tasting victory, Empoli bounced back to winning ways with a shock 2-1 victory away to Fiorentina. It was also surprising, given the fact that Empoli have scored the least goals away from home (8). In eight of the last 11 meetings between the sides, the score was level at halftime. There is plenty of value on the Half-time Draw – Full-time AC Milan Win at 3/1.

39/20 Chievo | 24/10 | Torino 5/4 (15:00)

Chievo have been dreadful in recent weeks with six losses from their last eight games, including four on the spin. Torino are undefeated in their last four matches with three draws and just one victory. It may not be the greatest form but it certainly is more convincing than their opponents. Chievo should be more organised and determined on home soil but I just can’t see them coming out on top. Torino are tipped to edge the win at 5/4.

1/5 Juventus | 5/1 | Genoa 11/1 (20:45)

Juventus have been in top form as they are unbeaten in their last 13 games with 11 wins. Their record on their ground speaks for itself with the Old Lady winning all 16 of their matches at home, scoring 40 goals and conceding just eight times. Genoa have travelled dismally with 11 losses from 16 matches, scoring 12 goals and conceding 32 times. As expected, the straight Juventus win is priced up low at 1/5, so it would be worth taking the Old Lady on the Matchbet & Both Teams to Score (No) market at 7/10.

Monday 24 April

17/2 Pescara | 52/10 | Roma 1/4 (20:45)

Basement-dwellers Pescara’s season is all but over. There is almost no way back for the relegation-candidates and with Roma up next, it just goes from bad to worse for the newly-promoted side. Pescara have managed just two wins from 32 games, scoring 31 goals and conceding a mammoth 70 times. Roma took a massive hit to their title-hopes after being held to a 1-1 home draw against Atalanta last weekend. However, they should be back to their best against the Pescara, so get on the Roma (-1) Handicap at 6/10.
