In a season where Mamelodi Sundowns aimed high with their squad enhancements, former Stellenbosch FC star Iqraam Rayners has proven to be a masterstroke signing.
The Bafana Bafana striker has seamlessly integrated into the Sundowns setup at Chloorkop, quickly dispelling any doubts about his move.
Rayners was among the notable acquisitions alongside Kegan Johannes, Arthur Sales and Kobamelo Kodisang as the Brazilians prepared for a fierce challenge in the Betway Premiership and the Champions League this season.
His performance on the pitch speaks volumes; with 11 goals in 14 matches across all competitions in his first five months, Rayners has been nothing short of sensational.
His contribution has added a fresh dynamic to the Sundowns’ attacking line-up. Rayners attributes his swift adaptation and success to the supportive environment at the club. “For me, it has always been about hard work, focus, and belief, alongside the support from the technical team,” Rayners explained.
“The players here already knew me well, which made my integration smooth. The atmosphere is great, and I’m thrilled to be part of this club.”
His impact was evident once again over the weekend when his lone strike clinched a 1-0 victory against Raja Casablanca in their third CAF Champions League group-stage encounter.
With Sundowns set to face Stellenbosch FC back at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday at 19h30, Rayners will be pivotal for coach Miguel Cardoso’s strategy.
The team aim to secure their lead at the summit of the league standings, and with Rayners in form, they have every reason to be confident.
