Chippa United coach Gavin Hunt had praise for his new-look side after holding Mamelodi Sundowns to a goalless draw on Tuesday night.
The Chilli Boys unveiled as many as 16 new signings ahead of their DStv Premiership opening day 1-0 win over new boys Sekhukhune United last weekend.
They followed up that performance with a battling draw against last season’s league champions, who themselves had kicked off their season by beating AmaZulu 1-0.
Speaking after seeing his side keep consecutive clean-sheets, Hunt said on SuperSport: “Not a celebration, I just think everybody stuck to the task, that’s the most important thing, you know. I mean players came in yesterday, a day before. Last minute we don’t really too much, so we stuck to it, we set out what we wanted to do.”
The former Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs boss added: “They won the league how many times in a row, that’s who they are, the champions leagues and things like that. We’re miles away from that but, one day at a time, one step at a time, try to build from there.
“The most important thing for us is not to concede too many goals and we can try build from that.
“We kept the shape, we kept the distances tight, if the distances are tight, it doesn’t matter who you’re playing against, you can still have a chance, you know what I mean.”
Hunt will now have time to bed in his new players with Chippa’s next game only on September 12, against Royal AM, due to the international break.
