Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos hailed his decision to start Rushwin Dortley in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda, despite a 2-2 draw.
Dortley, 22, earned his spot in the squad following impressive performances at the COSAFA Cup, leading to his first-ever call-up.
Broos’s faith in Dortley paid off as the young Kaizer Chiefs defender made his debut in a challenging match.
After the game, Broos defended his backline, stating, “We cannot blame the defenders for the goals conceded. They did their job effectively.”
He added, “For Rushwin, it was a tough debut, but he performed well. The decision to include him was a sound one.”
Bafana’s next challenge will be against South Sudan, who lost their opening Group match 1-0 to Congo Brazzaville.
This upcoming fixture will be crucial for Bafana’s hopes of qualification.
