Hugo Broos hails Bafana mentality despite Lesotho draw

Hugo Broos say he got what he needed from Bafana Bafana’s goalless draw with Lesotho on Wednesday while admitting his side lacked “freshness” in the tie.

South Africa are set to kick off their Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Mali at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium on Tuesday.

They faced Lesotho behind-closed-doors at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in their final warm-up game but were unable to secure a result.

But Broos insists his team will be firing on all cylinders when the AFCON gets underway.

Broos said in the Citizen after the game: “It was not bad, and not good.

“We put in a lot of hard work in the last three or four days (in training) and maybe a bit more freshness was needed to beat Lesotho.

“But I am not unhappy, everyone got had an opportunity to play and we saw what we wanted to see.

“I said before it was not even a friendly, it was a preparation game … it was important to see the mentality (of the side) and the mentality was good). In a few more days (against Mali) it will be different it will be better.”

Bafana are in Group E where they will also face Namibia and Tunisia.
