Bafana Bafana Hugo Broos admitted that individual errors almost cost his side against South Sudan on Tuesday.
South Africa found themselves a goal down to a 15th minute Tito Okello penalty at the Juba Stadium ahead of a 17th minute Oswin Appollis equaliser.
Appollis put Bafana ahead on the stroke of half-time, but Valentino Yuel levelled the score with his 57th minute goal.
The match was heading for a draw until Thalente Mbatha popped up with goal deep into injury time to secure a 3-2 win.
It is the second time in two games that Mbatha has been the saviour for Bafana after his stoppage-time equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Uganda on Friday.
Reflecting on the game, Broos explained that he was relieved to have won against a very competitive South Sudan.
He said in the Citizen: “I am very happy we could still win the game.
“I didn’t believe in it anymore, with the problems we had, the team of South Sudan played with heart and dedication.
“The good Lord upstairs was with us, also against Uganda.”
Broos added that his side must cut out individual errors if they are to be successful.
Goalkeeper Veli Mothwa was credited for a mistake that led to the Uganda draw while Siyabonga Ngezana was adjudged to have been at fault for both goals against Bafana in their recent narrow win.
“Individual mistakes always happen but now we have had two games with mistakes. The second goal against Uganda was a mistake,” said the coach.
“Against South Sudan we made two mistakes (for their goals). It is something we have to do better next month against Congo.”
Bafana play Congo home and away in October ahead of return fixtures against South Sudan and Uganda in November.
