Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has stressed that, even though the team has already qualified for AFCON 2025, their objective remains unchanged as they aim for a win against Uganda on Friday.
South Sudan’s 3-2 win over Congo Brazzaville dashed the hopes of going to Morocco next year for the Congolese and confirmed that Bafana and Group K leaders Uganda are through to the continental showdown.
South Africa is set to face the Uganda Cranes today at 15:00 at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala before they host South Sudan on Tuesday, 19 November in Cape Town.
Broos stressed that the results of yesterday’s game do not change anything for his charge as they will go full force to grab all six points in an effort to finish as group winners.
“We want to win the game, we want to win to end top of the group and that means we have to beat Uganda. So (qualifying) does not change anything for us,” he said.
On Thursday, it was announced that tickets for the 45,000-seater stadium have been sold out. Broos is hopeful of a competitive match and a great atmosphere.
“I hope that it will be a nice game and a good game. It will be a full house, and there will be a lot of atmosphere inside the stadium. This is motivation for the players and let us hope that the best team wins today,” he concluded.
