Hlatshwayo: SuperSport was the best team for me

Thulani Hlatshwayo is excited by the opportunity to play for SuperSport United.

The former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Thulani Hlatshwayo signed a one-year deal with Matsatsantsa to reunite with coach Gavin Hunt.
The 32-year-old centre back began his career with Ajax Cape Town ahead of his time at Bidvest Wits.
It was at Wits where Hlatshwayo captained the side under Hunt with the pair enjoying great success together in terms of trophies. Hlatshwayo was named PSL Player of the Season in the 2016/17 title-winning campaign.
Hlatshwayo joined Pirates from the now-defunct Clever Boys in 2020. ‘Tyson’ was a first-team regular to begin with but fell out of favour in the latter half of his maiden campaign with Pirates.
He subsequently fell down the pecking order at both club and international level and made just 12 appearances for the Buccaneers in all competitions last season before being released by the Soweto giants a month ago.
Speaking after making the move, Hlatshwayo said in the Citizen: “I feel good to reunite with coach Gavin. I know what kind of a personality he is and for me to revive myself SuperSport was the best team for me.

“I have always pictured myself here at SuperSport. I remember when Pitso Mosimane was still here. But I had to take the longer route of going to Ajax Cape Town, to Bidvest Wits and Pirates and only arriving now.

“I just want to promise everyone that I will do everything possible to make our fans happy and to revive myself because I know where I come from, the limited game time that I had and the loss of form. Pre-season is a good platform to work hard and set goals for the upcoming season.”
