Manqoba Mngqithi has heaped praise on veteran striker Peter Shalulile, whose impressive form has been instrumental in Mngqithi’s reign as the sole Sundowns head coach this season.
Shalulile’s standout performance in the 4-0 Carling Knockout victory over Kaizer Chiefs further solidified his resurgence, marking his fourth goal in his previous four matches, across all competitions.
Mngqithi, while acknowledging the team’s contribution to Shalulile’s success, emphasized the striker’s unwavering dedication and professionalism as key factors behind his impressive form.
“I wouldn’t want to take the credit for his turnaround,” Mngqithi stated during the post-match press conference.
He emphasised, “It starts from him. He’s one of the best professionals I’ve ever worked with and one of the hardest working players.”
The coach noted Shalulile’s unwavering focus and commitment, which had a positive influence on the entire squad.
“The energy from the team and the coaching staff was all about wishing Peter the best,” he added.
Mngqithi explained that the club had always believed in Shalulile’s potential and supported him through a challenging period, stating, “The least we did as coaches was to not lose faith in him.”
As Sundowns prepare for Wednesday’s Betway Premiership match against Polokwane City, Mngqithi’s faith in Shalulile’s ability to continue finding the net served as a reminder of the striker’s vital role in the team’s success.
This win propelled Sundowns into the semifinals and highlighted Shalulile’s resurgence, as he netted his fourth goal in three matches across all competitions.
Mngqithi refrained from taking personal credit for Shalulile’s turnaround, instead attributing the striker’s success to his own professionalism and dedication.
