German Bundesliga Preview

Jupp Heynckes got off to the perfect start in his 3rd spell as Bayern boss, following their 5-0 win over Freiburg
Jupp Heynckes got off to the perfect start in his 3rd spell as Bayern Munich boss, beating Freiburg 5-0.

Last week’s return to club football produced an enticing round of Bundesliga action. Bayern Munich cut Borussia Dortmund’s lead at the summit to just two points after trouncing Freiburg, while Leipzig also did the reigning champions a favour by ousting the Black and Yellow army 3-2 on their own ground. Nonetheless, I was more than happy to pick up a tasty 6/1 selected treble and I’m extremely feeling confident I can add to my winnings. Let’s find out’s what matchday nine has in store for us.

Friday 20 October

8/10 Schalke | Draw 51/20 | Mainz 33/10 (20:30)

We begin the round with Schalke taking on Mainz at the Veltins-Arena on Friday evening. The hosts were excellent last time out, claiming a well-deserved 2-0 victory away to Hertha Berlin. Mainz are winless on the road, scoring just once and conceding six times. Schalke have won the last three meetings at home against Mainz, scoring nine goals and conceding just twice. The home win should be backed.

Saturday 21 October

14/10 Monchengladbach | 26/10 | Bayer Leverkusen 17/10 (15:30)

Monchengladbach have won three of their last four matches, including back-to-back wins. Bayer Leverkusen have struggled on the road with three losses from four games but they haven’t been shy of goals scored in recent weeks. The last five meetings between these sides have produced a total of 19 goals at an average of 3.8 scored per game. With the current form of both sides, I suggest you follow the pattern and climb on the Over 2.5 Goals market at 5/10.

1/1 Augsburg | 24/10 | Hannover 28/10 (15:30)

Augsburg are off the back of an impressive and hard-fought 2-2 draw away to Hoffenheim. Hannover are winless in their last four games with consecutive defeats. Augsburg’s last home match saw them go down 2-1 to Dortmund, showing impressive fighting spirit. Prior to that loss, they had won back-to-back home games and will be eager to return to winning ways. Back the home team to come out on top.

5/10 Leipzig | 33/10 | Stuttgart 5/1 (15:30)

Leipzig have been in top form in recent weeks with three wins in a row, including a 3-2 victory at Dortmund last time out. Stuttgart did well to utilize home advantage last time out, seeing off Cologne 2-1 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. However, it’s on the road where they have struggled as they hold the worst travelling record this season with four losses from four matches, scoring twice and conceding nine times. Leipzig are tipped for the win.

15/4 Eintracht Frankfurt | 29/10 | Borussia Dortmund 7/10 (15:30)

Eintracht Frankfurt will be hoping to maintain the excellent run of form they have shown of late. They have won three of their last four matches, including back-to-back wins. Dortmund have won six of their eight matches but stuttered last week, going down 3-2 on home soil against Leipzig. BVB aren’t a team to stay down for long and they’ll be looking to bounce back immediately. However, Frankfurt are playing with confidence and I’m expecting them to at least find the net. Both Teams to Score – Yes – is the way to go at 7/10.

14/1 Hamburg | 13/2 | Bayern Munich 1/6 (18:30)

Hamburg are bordering the relegation zone after just eight matches, suffering five losses from their last six matches, scoring twice and conceding 13 times. Manager Jupp Heynckes got off to an explosive start following his return to Bayern Munich with the Bavarians smashing Freiburg 5-0. There is no doubt in my mind that Bayern will make it two from two but I’d just like to back them at greater value compared to their 1/6 on offer. With that being said, I like the market Away To Score In Both Halves at 11/20.

Sunday 22 October

14/10 Cologne | 9/4 | Werder Bremen 2/1 (13:30)

Cologne and Werder Bremen will go toe-to-toe in a bottom-of-the-log clash. The Billy Goats are without a win after eight games, suffering seven defeats, scoring three goals and conceding 17 times. Werder Bremen are also winless, scoring three goals and conceding nine times. Both teams are finding it difficult to get on the score sheet at the moment which leads me to think we could be in for a bit of a dull contest. The Under 2.5 Goals market should be taken at 8/10.

18/10 Freiburg | 21/10 | Hertha Berlin 33/20 (15:30)

Freiburg will be licking their wounds following their 5-0 drubbing at the hands of a rampant Bayern Munich side. Hertha Berlin stretched their winless run to three matches last time out after going down 2-0 in front of their own fans against Schalke. Despite Freiburg’s whiplashing they received last weekend, they are undefeated in their last eight home matches. Hertha Berlin have lost 11 of their last 13 travels and that’s plenty enough reason for me to go the other way. Get on the home win at 18/10!

29/20 Wolfsburg | 51/20 | Hoffenheim 7/4 (18:00)

Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim will bring the curtain down on round nine. The home side have managed just one win from eight matches this season, but drawing their last four games and scoring in each of them. Hoffenheim have lacked consistency up until this stage and will need to up their game. Wolfsburg have won the last four meetings at home against Hoffenheim and look more than capable of making it five in a row. However, it’s just one of those fixtures that can go either way and as such, I’m backing Over 2.5 Goals at 13/20.

LAST WEEK’S TREBLE WON @ 6/1

Hannover vs Eintracht Frankfurt – BTTS 19/20

Bayern – Both Halves Over 1.5 Goals 13/10

Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg – Over 2.5 Goals 11/20

THIS WEEK’S TREBLE TIPPED @ 11/2

Monchengladbach vs Leverkusen – Over 2.5 Goals 5/10

Bayern – Away To Score In Both Halves 11/20

Freiburg Win 18/10
