German Bundesliga: Gameweek 7 Preview

Christopher Nkunku

We’re back before the international break with one of Europe’s top leagues back in action. Bayern Munich take their win streak to five, while Wolfsburg have slipped off the pace since starting quick out the blocks, and usual contenders Borussia Dortmund are woeful in defence.

Gameweek seven boasts some confident straight wins with and looks to be full of goals. Let’s get straight into the German Bundesliga excellence.

Friday 1 October
Cologne 5/10
Draw 7/2
Greuther Furth 44/10
(20:30)
When Cologne welcome Greuther Furth this Friday, it will be the first time these two clubs meet in the Bundesliga. Greuther are finding life difficult in the country’s top division, going winless since joining and currently sit rock bottom on just one point, while the Billy Goats lost just one fixture – 3-2 against defending champions Bayern Munich. The home team have drawn three straight fixtures 1-1 and have not shown the killer instinct, but will be sure to make their efforts count against poor opposition. Take the home team confidently.
Saturday 2 October

Borussia Dortmund 2/9
Draw 56/10
Augsburg 9/1
(15:30)
Borussia Dortmund have a terrible defensive problem, unable to keep a clean sheet in all of their Bundesliga fixtures. Monchengladbach finally stopped them from scoring to hand them their second defeat of the campaign. They have another midweek fixture before coming in against Augsburg who are in a similar boat to BVB, having not kept a clean sheet this Bundesliga campaign either. For me, both teams to score is on the money, especially with Dortmund’s one game in the last 10 being a clean sheet. Both Teams to Score (Yes) at 15/20 looks a banker.

Wolfsburg 11/10
Draw 49/20
Borussia Monchengladbach 23/10
(15:30)
Wolfsburg had a great start to the season, winning their first four but drawing to Eintracht Frankfurt and slipping even further with a 3-1 loss to Hoffenheim. The away team will be high on confidence after keeping a clean sheet and earning three points over Borussia Dortmund who hadn’t failed to score in 39 previous Bundesliga fixtures. Both teams are looking to find good form after one has taken a turn for the worse and the other having a shaky start, so back this fixture to end in a draw.

Stuttgart 15/10
Draw 28/10
Hoffenheim 15/10
(15:30)
Stuttgart are on a five-match winless run since their opening day victory over Greuther Furth. They now welcome Hoffenheim to the Mercedes Benz Arena in hopes of rekindling their idea of winning. Hoffenheim picked up their second win of the season and against a tough opponent in Wolfsburg, hoping to keep the ball rolling on their travels. I do not see either team edging out the other in this affair, but an exciting draw is on the cards.

Hertha Berlin 33/20
Draw 47/20
Freiburg 16/10
(15:30)
Hertha Berlin thought they had gotten back to winning ways after securing two victories on the bounce, but RB Leipzig put a dampener on the party, slapping The Old Lady with a hefty 6-0 defeat. The home team will surely bounce right back, knowing fully well it was always going to be tough last gameweek. Freiburg, on the other hand, have been solid, yet to taste defeat in all seven of their competitive fixtures this season. After two draws, they picked up a convincing 3-0 win over Augsburg to close out September with three points. Aside from the results, the performances have been rather great, with good transitions and meaningful possession from Freiburg. Draw no bet at 8/10 on Freiburg should be included in your weekend multiples.
RB Leipzig 2/9
Draw 58/10
Bochum 10/1
(18:30)
Bochum required an immediate response after going down 7-0 to Bayern and did just that by securing a point against a Bundesliga staple Stuttgart. Bochum looked convincing against Stuttgart but coming up against RB Leipzig is a tough ask. Leipzig were and probably still are out for blood after their recent embarrassments, winning their last fixture 6-0 over Hertha Berlin. Attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku stole the show, pulling all the strings and scoring two and assisting one. This fixture is pretty black and white and RB Leipzig, back up and running should, run right through Bochum. Back the home team to win and over 2.5 goals at 11/20.

Sunday 3 October
Mainz 21/20
Draw 23/10
Union Berlin 26/10
(15:30)
Sunday’s curtain raiser sees Union Berlin travel to Mainz where they will look to get some revenge after last season’s narrow 1-0 defeat with 10 men. The last time out, Mainz were able to keep a goalscoring Bayer Leverkusen to just one goal, but will still be hard done that they were unable to convert their 14 shots at goal. Union have a midweek fixture in which they will have to shuffle players yet again, and life might prove a little difficult with some weary legs. The home team is where my money will be heading purely on 12th man advantage and leggy opposition after their midweek fixture.
Bayern Munich 1/6
Draw 7/1
Eintracht Frankfurt 11/1
(17:30)
Bayern Munich put up another great scoreline last time out and coming up against a team who is defensively resolute, in Eintracht Frankfurt, might be a little more of a test for the big guns. The traveling team have drawn their last four fixtures 1-1, and the fifth before that 0-0. Eintracht are happy to concede possession and put players behind the ball with solid defensive lines and take their opportunities when they arrive. Although the away team might be putting disciplined performances together, Julian Nagelsmann’s boys are finally getting into gear. Back the Home Team To Win Both Halves (Yes), edging the first half and securing the second.

Arminia Bielefeld 36/10
Draw 29/10
Bayer Leverkusen 7/10
(15:30)
Second placed Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz had been involved in a goal every 30 minutes before kick-off last time out and the youngster came through yet again scoring the only goal to defeat Mainz. Wirtz is now the youngest player to score 10 Bundesliga goals at 18 years and 145 days. Arminia is not in the history making bracket like their opposition this campaign with a poor run of results and yet to win. Back Bayer Leverkusen to win away and with Wirtz’ momentum rolling over, he should find the net again.
QUAD @ 6/1
Cologne Win 5/10
Freiburg Draw No Bet 8/10
Leipzig Win & Over 2.5 11/20
Leverkusen Win 7/10
