German Bundesliga: Gameweek 13 Preview

Marco Reus

Bayern Munich have slipped up for the second time this season, and Borussia Dortmund have a chance to pounce on the Bavarian’s errors. With the Black and Yellows’ UCL hopes of group stage qualification having a big question mark, the battle to reclaim a league title begins here.

Check out Borussia Dortmund’s all-im’point’ant clash preview and an 8/1 treble.

Friday 26 November
Stuttgart 2/1
Draw 24/10
Mainz 27/20
(21:30)
Friday night sees the Mercedes-Benz Arena feature Stuttgart versus Mainz. Stuttgart have gotten the better of their opposition in recent fixtures, but their run of form this season is not one to back. Mainz are heading into tough territory, but high on confidence after a good run of fixtures. The 05ers are not in lack of goals, just composure, and they seem to have found a slither of calm. The away team at 27/20 is good value.

Saturday 27 November

Wolfsburg 19/10
Draw 5/2
Borussia Dortmund 13/10
(16:30)
The in-form team is surprisingly Wolfsburg. Florian Kohfeldt has seemingly revived the team, but his honeymoon period is slowly edging closer. After being favourites to dispatch Arminia Bielefeld last gameweek, a 2-2 draw quickly makes the water murky again surrounding the club. Dortmund’s UCL campaign is just about over, and they will strongly turn their eyes to the reclaiming Bundesliga glory. Just one point off of defending and eternal rivals Bayern, they will have a real go at all three points against Wolfsburg. Dortmund win and both teams to score (yes) is the play here at 32/10.

Hertha Berlin 21/20
Draw 23/10
Augsburg 26/10
(16:30)
Hertha will be sorely demoralised after their big derby loss to Union last week, while Augsburg are fully buzzing after taking out Bayern Munich 2-1 in the comfort of their backyard. Both teams sit 14th and 15th respectively, with a point separation. There is a lot at stake for either club, and Augsburg will hold the momentum. I have to back Augsburg to do the job away from home here after their last display.

Cologne 19/10
Draw 51/20
Borussia Monchengladbach 13/10
(16:30)
After having a rather impressive start, Cologne have faltered in their last five without a win and having scraped together just three points of a possible 15. The Billy Goats are not lacking the goals, but the finishing result is not in their favour struggling to stay rigid when necessary. The Borussia outfit will make a short trip to tee-off with the Billy Goats who they face off with for the 94th time in all competitions. Monchengladbach’s record away from home against their current opposition is impressive alongside with their recent results in the league. The away team will pull off this job, but goals are not in abundance for this fixture, so adding the under 2.5 market for added value could be the play, but for me a straight M’Gladbach at 13/10 is value enough.

Bochum 43/20
Draw 24/10
Freiburg 5/4
(16:30)
Freiburg have been impressive and backing them after a loss, a narrow loss, to Bayern seemed undeniable, but somehow, we still got hurt. A 2-0 home defeat for Freiburg probably hurt them more than it did my pocket, and what better way than to bounce back against strugglers Bochum. Bochum have, however, finally realised they’re in the Bundesliga and put together some wins. Three in their last five with clean sheets shows there is a bit of fight in the squad to stay strong defensively and choose the right moments to attack. Both teams are in fighting spirit, but the better of the two has to be Freiburg. One last chance on the away team.

Greuther Furth 38/10
Draw 33/10
Hoffenheim 6/10
(16:30)
Hoffenheim are surely proud of their last result, almost effortlessly seeing off Jesse Marsch’s Leipzig 2-0 on home soil. A great way to get back into the win column and what better way to maintain your results highlighted in green than against the outright worst team of the top five leagues in Europe, Greuther Furth, still yet to record a victory and sit dead last on one point. Add some meat to the bone and bet Hoffenheim and over 2.5 goals at 12/10.
Bayern Munich 1/12
Draw 10/1
Arminia Bielefeld 24/1
(19:30)
Twice this season, Bayern Munich have now been stunned. A loss at home to Eintracht Frankfurt and last gameweek a defeat at the hands of now 15th-placed Augsburg. Bayern are killing multiples this season, but still, would you really back against them? Arminia Bielefeld are worse off in table position and form than Die Roten’s last opponents and might as well cause an upset as well, but it’s not where I could place my money. Despite losing, Robert Lewandowski still scored even though votes for the Ballon d’Or are officially done. Bet “the Body” in the anytime goal scorer market at 2/7 for a sure bet.

Sunday 28 November

Eintracht Frankfurt 13/10
Draw 49/20
Union Berlin 2/1
(16:30)
Eintracht Frankfurt produced the upset in my bets last gameweek and dispatched of Freiburg. The Eagles are flying high on three wins in all competition (before facing Antwerp in the Europa League) having scored two goals in each of those victories. Union Berlin come off the back of an emphatic Berlin Derby win with a home crowed behind them and now travel to the Deutsche Bank Park where they lost 5-2 last season and drew 3-3 at their home gorunds. I cannot find a victor between the two, but goals seem to be in buckets full whenever these sides face regardless of the venue with just two of their 11 meetings under 2.5 goals. Bet the additional totals market of over 2.5 at 17/20.

RB Leipzig 8/10
Draw 29/10
Bayer Leverkusen 29/10
(18:30)
While I want RB Leipzig to be what they were under Juliann Nagelsman, I just can’t see it happening. They have proved heavily inconsistent this season in both the league and Champions League. The quality of player is not in question, but the results are never a certainty. Bayer Leverkusen sit high up on the table but come into this encounter on poor form with just a single win their last five, and should Leipzig get the win, the home team will sit even on points with their Leverkusen. All the incentive for either team is there, but finding trust in any one of the two is non-existent. Punt on the draw if you must have a bet.

TREBLE @ 8/1
Borussia Dortmund Win 13/10
Hoffenheim Win & Over 2.5 Goals 12/10
Eintracht Frankfurt/Union Berlin: Over 2.5 Goals 17/20
