Former Kaizer Chiefs and Charlton Athletic striker Shaun Bartlett has joined Stuart Baxter’s technical team for Bafana’s double-header against Seychelles.
Bartlett, who scored 28 goals for Bafana during his playing career, was at their training session on Monday afternoon ahead of Saturday’s clash at FNB Stadium.
“Shaun will also be joining the coaching staff on a game-by-game basis. This will give us a chance at first to see if he likes us and we in turn like him,” Baxter said at Monday’s press conference.
Saturday’s home Africa Cup of Nations qualifier for Bafana against the island nation will kick off at 15h00. Following on from that, they will travel to Seychelles to face the same opposition on Tuesday.
As things stand in Group E, South Africa trail Libya on goal difference at the top of the table. In their first two games, Baxter’s side stunned Nigeria 2-0 away before limping to a 0-0 draw with the Mediterranean Knights at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.
There are 24 spots available for next year’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon, including the one reserved for the host nation, and 12 qualifying groups.
