Junior Khanye wants to see Kaizer Chiefs sign former Orlando Pirates attacker Kermit Erasmus.
The 33-year-old was released by the Buccaneers following the completion of their 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
Erasmus was one of a number of exits as Pirates began to prepare their squad for upcoming league and CAF Champions League campaigns.
This was his second spell with Bucs, having first played for the club in 2013 after joining from SuperSport United.
He made a return in 2022, from Mamelodi Sundowns and while he played 25 times in his first season back, scoring four goals and creating five, this term the former Feyenoord frontman only managed 11 games and one goal.
A farewell message from the club on their official website read: “Kermit rejoined the Buccaneers in 2022 after nine years away and made an immediate impact by helping us clinch the MTN8 title. Romeo, with over 117 matches under his belt in Pirates colours, has solidified his legendary status at the club.”
Former player turned soccer pundit Khanye told iDiski Times: “I’d love to see him signing for Kaizer Chiefs.
“I do believe Kaizer Chiefs can offer something. But Chiefs might not want to because they might look at his age because in South Africa, once you are 34, or 35, they label you that you can’t play anymore.
“I don’t understand where this comes from because there are top players who are still playing for their countries at 36, 37 and they are still scoring.
“Ronaldo scored two goals now for Portugal. He is 38 turning 39, the same age as me, but he is still wearing the armband for Portugal and scoring.
“So why not Kermit at the age of 34? For me, he is still good enough to play for Kaizer Chiefs. I think Chiefs should sign him as well.”
