Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams nominated for FIFA award

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has been nominated for the FIFA ‘The Best Awards’.

The 32-year-old South African national team captain has been an outstanding performer for both club and country in recent seasons.

He was nominated for the 2024 Lev Yashin trophy at the Ballon d’Or awards, where he ultimately ended in ninth place as Emiliano Martínez scooped the top prize.

Yassine Bounou, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ederson, Andriy Lunin, Mike Maignan, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Martinez, David Raya, Unai Simon, Yann Sommer and Williams are all in contention for the World XI.

Williams was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament at last season’s African Football League. He was also named Premier Soccer League Goalkeeper of the Season and PSL Footballer of the Season and also won the COSAFA Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.
