Favourites tag doesn’t phase Orlando Pirates, says Jose Riveiro

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro accepts that his side head into the Carling Knockout Cup as competition favourites.

The Buccaneers have already scooped this season’s MTN8 trophy. They also won the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup in Riveiro’s first season in charge last term.

They have been drawn to face Cape Town Spurs in the newly formed Carling cup, at the Orlando Stadium on Friday.

But speaking ahead of the match, Riveiro explained that it is not new for Pirates to be considered one of the ‘favourites’.

He explained on iDiski Times: “I don’t think it’s based on what we achieved in the recent past. It’s because we are Orlando Pirates, so every time we go into any competition, we have to accept that we are one of the favourites.

“It’s a normal thing. We just have to get it in the right way and accept it.”

The Bucs boss added: “It’s nice to be in a team that gives you the possibility to really fight and really dream about being the winning team in the end.

“I don’t think it’s because we managed to succeed in the last three finals we found ourselves in.”
