FAROUK KHAN PICKS HIS TOP PERFORMERS IN SOWETO DERBY

The electrifying encounter at FNB Stadium on Saturday witnessed a flurry of goals, captivating nearly 87,000 spectators. Ultimately, it was the Buccaneers who emerged triumphant with a 3-2 comeback victory.

Patrick Maswanganyi, orchestrating the winning goal, particularly caught Khan’s discerning eye and was his star player of the Derby. Khan, speaking exclusively to Soccer Laduma, lauded Maswanganyi’s pivotal role in dictating Pirates’ rhythm, citing his impeccable control, visionary passes, and unmatched creativity.

“Maswanganyi was exceptional. He dictated the tempo, crafted brilliant passes, and showcased unparalleled creativity,” Khan remarked, before commending Monnapule Saleng, the two-goal hero of the day.

Saleng, seizing his seventh start of the season, capitalized on Chiefs’ defensive lapses to net a brace, impressing Khan with his sharpness and clinical finishing.

“Saleng performed admirably after a prolonged absence, demonstrating his prowess with two well-taken goals,” Khan noted. Additionally, Khan highlighted Olisa Ndah’s underrated defensive contributions, pivotal in thwarting Chiefs’ counterattacks.

On the other hand, Khan expressed disappointment with Chiefs’ lacklustre display, struggling to identify standout performers amidst their subpar showing. Despite Ashley Du Preez’s brace, Khan criticized Chiefs’ careless possession and deviation from their traditional style, emphasizing excessive reliance on wing play.

Khan’s assessment of the Soweto Derby showcases Orlando Pirates’ standout performers while underscoring Chiefs’ shortcomings in a fiercely contested encounter.
