Ex-Pirates man named Vice-Captain Ligue 1

Stade Reims has recognized the significant contributions of former Orlando Pirates man Marshall Munetsi by appointing him as the club’s new vice-captain. Teddy Teuma has been named Reims’ captain, with Munetsi serving as his deputy.

The club, Stade Reims, expressed confidence in the leadership duo via a statement on their website,

Teddy Teuma, a leader by word, now becomes one by his status. With a core of experienced players around him, he will be able to guide the team effectively,”

“Marshall Munetsi, recognised for his key role in the integration of young people and the cohesion of the group, will continue to occupy a central place in the SDR locker room. Emmanuel Agbadou and Yehvann Diouf assert themselves, for their part, as new pillars of the collective.”

“It’s part of what I want to build with the club. I want to be the captain that Stade de Reims deserves.

“I don’t claim to replace Yunis, and I don’t intend to do so. There are several leaders in the locker room, including Marshall, Yehvann and Agba. Our goal is to support the youngsters and pull the whole group up.”

The Zimbabwean midfielder has been a cornerstone of the French Ligue 1 side since his 2019 transfer. With 129 appearances, 17 goals, and 12 assists, the 28-year-old has established himself as a key player for Reims.

Munetsi is also the vice-captain of the Zimbabwe national team, showcasing his leadership qualities on both domestic and international stages.

Stade Reims kick off their Ligue 1 campaign against Lille on Saturday, August 17.
