Ernst Middendorp slams ‘disgraceful’ Cape Town Spurs supporters

Cape Town Spurs Ernst Middendorp was left furious after his side’s 2-0 DStv Premiership defeat to Cape Town City on New Year’s eve.

A 36th minute Relebogile Mokhuoane free-kick and 90th minute tap-in from Jaedin Rhodes sealed the result at the Cape Town Stadium.

Middendorp was seen going into the stands after the game to approach disgruntled supporters before being calmed down by Clayton Daniels, and after the tie branded the supporters a disgrace as they called for his dismissal.

The result left the Citizens in second place on the league standings with 29 points from 16 games and Spurs bottom with four points.

After the game, Middendorp said in the Citizen: “This ia a disgrace.

“There is a lot of work to be done and I remain fully committed to saving the club from relegation.”

Spurs will have some time to ready themselves for their next encounter, after the Africa Cup of Nations, against Royal AM on 14 February.
