Erik ten Hag has expressed his confidence that Manchester United signings Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro will play pivotal roles in the trophy hunt.
Both players joined the Red Devils in high-profile transfers, with Ten Hag praising their potential to contribute to the club’s success.
Joshua Zirkzee became United’s first signing of the summer, making a move from Bologna for a transfer fee of £36.5million.
The 22-year-old Dutch striker has signed a five-year contract with the club, which will keep him at Old Trafford until 2029.
Ten Hag has spoken highly of Zirkzee, believing that his skills and adaptability will be crucial in United’s attacking play this season.
“He’s still a young player, but he’s already had an impressive career so far,” Ten Hag said when asked about Zirkzee, in an interview with SuperSport.
“He played in Germany, played in Belgium, Italy, so he’s already had experience and is now coming to the Premier League.
“He has a great skillset for such a big guy. He’s got a great technical skillset and a great intuition of play, he can be very creative and I think he really fits well into this club.”
Leny Yoro, who joined from Lille for a transfer fee of £52.8million, with an additional £6.8million in potential add-ons, also caught the eye of the United faithful during his first pre-season appearance.
The 18-year-old French defender showed immense promise, quickly endearing himself to both the coaching staff and fans alike.
However, Yoro’s early momentum was halted when he suffered a fractured metatarsal during a pre-season match against Arsenal.
The injury required surgery, and the young defender is not expected to return to action until October. Despite this setback, Ten Hag remains confident in Yoro’s future at the club.
“We are so happy that we could sign him, he’s one the biggest assets in European football, so we managed to bring him in and we are very pleased,” Ten Hag told SuperSport, when asked about Yoro.
“Leny knows he has to progress a lot and we know must help and support him, and we know we have the skills in our team to help him to achieve his high ambition.
“The potential is absolutely there and we are sure he can help us win games, we are sure he can help us to win trophies. That’s what United stands for.”
