English Premier League: Gameweek 17 Preview

Alexandre Lacazette

It is truly the most wonderful time of year! And what better way to complement the holiday season but with a seemingly unrelenting serving of Premier League football!

The fixtures have packaged themselves perfectly this week and I suggest you take each day’s fixtures as an individual treble and quad – thank me later!

Tuesday 14 December

Norwich City 22/10
Draw 9/4
Aston Villa 13/10
(21:45)

Norwich was excellent against United. I must admit, on Saturday night I abhorrently disagreed with Dean Smith…but once the adrenaline runs out and you come down to your senses – Norwich matched United for parts and a draw wouldn’t have been a sinful ending.

Villa under their new supreme leader have been brilliant though, they will play with insurmountable passion and pace, and I think they’ll run over Norwich. Back the away win.
Manchester City 1/8
Draw 15/2
Leeds United 18/1
(22:00)
City prevented any unnecessary blushes against Wolves last time out, with that win they preserved their spot on top of the League in what was a controversial day all over England.

Leeds would have been disappointed and possibly felt hard done by against Chelsea, but the one positive for the Whites is their return to scoring form. Of course, City win…but nobody will be sliding into my ‘DMs’ to congratulate my 1/8 tip – so back both to score at 12/10.

Wednesday 15 December

Brighton 13/10
Draw 2/1
Wolves 23/10
(21:30)
Brighton would have been gifted with some extra time to prepare for this fixture – which might have come at the right time for the Seagulls (all things considered).

Wolves were very well organized against City, defensively they needed to be so credit to Bruno Lage. This is a tough game to navigate but I think backing under 2.5 goals might see you through. Get on at 11/20.
Crystal Palace 11/10
Draw 47/20
Southampton 24/10
(21:30)

I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the price available about a Palace win. The Eagles have been brilliant, and I think they win here. Southampton have struggled on the road, and this certainly isn’t the side to have your fortunes change for the better.

I’m all in on Palace – joining?

Burnley 11/10
Draw 49/20
Watford 24/10
(21:30)
I’ve tried to stay loyal to my appreciation on Sean Dyche and Burnley…but I simply cannot afford it! The Clarets have stayed in the League because their home form has been incredible…so with that in mind, they might struggle this year.

Watford are beginning to knock on the door, and I think they force Burnley to become unstuck. Dilly ding dilly dong – back the visitors on the win/draw double chance at 13/20.

Arsenal 11/10
Draw 51/20
West Ham 9/4
(22:00)
This is another chance to make some good money. And I’ll keep this rather simple for you, Arsenal have been incredible in front of their home fans whilst the visitors have been incredibly poor on the road.

I must be honest; I would quite literally suggest you had backed whoever played at home.

Thursday 16 December

Leicester City 14/10
Draw 49/20
Tottenham 18/10
(21:30)
I would strongly suggest you have a look at the team sheets before doing anything else on this game. Leicester haven’t been fantastic, and I don’t feel they deserve our confidence.

I’m not entirely sure how much of an effect the COVID-19 outbreak has had at Spurs, but if they are able to field their strongest side, I think getting behind them might be the play. The double chance is priced at 5/10 – which is good enough for me.
Chelsea 1/4
Draw 48/10
Everton 10/1
(21:45)
The cracks are starting to form, and you get the feeling time is running out for Rafa Benitez. You’ve got to feel for him, he’s been brilliant in England, but I can’t see him being given the benefit of the doubt and the time required for much longer.

Chelsea have had a slight stumble, but I they’ll come right again here. Back the Blues on the half time/full time win at 7/10.
Liverpool 1/8
Draw 8/1
Newcastle United 18/1
(22:00)
Liverpool had to dig deep and sort of squeeze out a victory last time out against Aston Villa – but the emotions involved wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Nevertheless, championship winning teams simply find a way to win consistently and that is exactly what Jurgen Klopp’s side have done. Newcastle have shown signs of immediate improvement under Eddie Howe, but I can’t see past the home win here. Back the Reds and over 2.5 goals at 4/10.
