Elvis Chipezeze praised his teammates after being awarded Man of the Match, as Magesi triumphed over Mamelodi Sundowns to claim the Carling Knockout Cup trophy on Saturday.
Goals from Tshepo Kakora (48′) and Delano Abrahams (87′) secured a 2-1 win after Iqraam Rayners (36′) had opened the scoring at the Free State Stadium.
Chipezeze was excellent in goal but expressed his gratitude to his Magesi teammates, as well as the club’s supporters for coming out in their numbers to support the team.
The keeper scooped a R100.000 prize for his performance, and after the game, he told SuperSport: “I’m just grateful to the fans, these people they pay their hard-earned money to come and watch us play.
“At the end of the day we have to return the favour to them, giving performances like today.
“As long as they’re smiling I’m happy.”
Chipezeze added that it was a massive effort for his team to overcome Sundowns.
“We knew they’ve got six players coming from Bafana Bafana, quality players, we know that, we just thought it’s a one-off game, anything can happen. We just gonna go there to create history.
“We just came into this game, knowing we’re the underdogs, no one expected us to win to be quite frank.
“But credit must go to the boys. Coach has been drilling us, drilling us sometimes we felt like giving up, but these are the results you see today.”
