The final rodeo! The last round of DStv Premiership action commences this weekend with some humdinger encounters to look forward to. Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, end their successful campaign with a trip to Durban to face CAF Champions League chasing Royal AM. Elsewhere, its derby weekend in Soweto, the Western Cape and Durban, where Swallows visit Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium, Stellenbosch host Cape Town City, while AmaZulu entertain Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Saturday 21 April
Royal AM 49/20
Draw 23/10
Sundowns 11/10
(15:00)
Undoubtedly the tie of the round sees Royal AM, who have hopes of finishing in the CAF Champions League spots, host Mamelodi Sundowns, who have wrapped up yet another league title this season. Downs have beaten the KZN outfit twice already this season, winning the reverse fixture 3-2 in the league, while also trouncing John Maduka’s men in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup. With more to play for, my money is on Royal AM to hold Downs to a draw in the champions’ final game of the season.
Chippa United 18/10
Draw 2/1
TS Galaxy 16/10
(15:00)
Chippa United, also known as the worst run football club in any multiverse, end their campaign in high spirits after avoiding relegation for yet another season. To celebrate this achievement, coach Kurt Lentjies will dust his boots off and feature for the Chilli Boys. TS Galaxy are almost over the line and should be safe this weekend if Swallows fail to beat Kaizer Chiefs. Or, the Rockets could just win this game which would guarantee their place in the DStv Premiership next season. My money is on the visitors.
AmaZulu 27/20
Draw 18/10
Golden Arrows 26/10
(15:00)
Like most derbies in the country, the KZN derby between AmaZulu and Golden Arrows have produced its fair share of stalemates. This season, they drew the reverse fixture 2-2, then played out to a 1-1 draw in the Round of 32 in the Nedbank Cup where AmaZulu progressed on penalties. Usuthu have been this season’s draw kings but are yet to lose a home game this term, despite drawing 10 times in 14 outings. I feel like AmaZulu end off on a winning note here.
Maritzburg United 16/10
Draw 22/10
Baroka FC 7/4
(15:00)
Maritzburg United have two games before their season concludes and they currently have 28 points, which puts them three points above their opponents, who are rock bottom on the standings. The visitors tend to come alive at this time of the season and are currently on a three-game unbeaten run, but somehow are yet to win on the road this term. Despite the odds and everything stacked against them, I fancy Baroka here.
Kaizer Chiefs 19/20
Draw 2/1
Swallows 36/10
(15:00)
It hasn’t been the best season for Kaizer Chiefs with the Glamour Boys sitting in fourth spot at the moment. They could, however, move above Royal AM into third spot if they win their game and hope results go in their favour. Swallows are in the relegation play-off spot and will stay there if they fail to beat Amakhosi. They haven’t given me much hope this season, therefore, I can’t see their luck changing now. Back Chiefs here at just under even money.
Marumo Gallants 29/20
Draw 7/4
Sekhukhune United 49/20
(15:00)
It’s been four consecutive league matches where Marumo Gallants have failed to find the back of the net. Furthermore, Gallants have not won in eight league ties. Luckily, they’ve done their business early and are very much safe from the drop zone. Sekhukhune United have been goal-shy as well and have not found the back of the net in six games. This is your typical DStv Premiership tie, which should end goalless.
Stellenbosch 23/10
Draw 22/10
Cape Town City 5/4
(15:00)
The Cape derby should be an entertaining one as Stellenbosch welcome Cape Town City to the Danie Craven Stadium. Both teams have been well placed in the top half of the table with Stellies in fifth spot, while Cape Town City are currently in second spot, which would seal their spot in next season’s CAF Champions League. Stellenbosch won the reverse fixture, but now I expect City to return the favour.
TREBLE @ 10/1
TS Galaxy Win 16/10
Kaizer Chiefs Win 19/20
Cape Town City Win 5/4
