DStv Premiership: Gameweek 23 Preview

AmaZulu host champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the highlight of this week's action

More dosage of DStv Premiership action will run through our veins in midweek as we have six matches to look forward to on Tuesday and Wednesday. Without a shadow of doubt, the headline act will be in Durban where AmaZulu look to end Sundowns’ unbeaten run in the league, while Kaizer Chiefs welcome Cape Town City to the FNB Stadium later on Wednesday.

Tuesday 20 April

Chippa United 17/10

Draw 2/1

Baroka 16/10

(15:00)

Chippa United come off league defeats to Maritzburg United and Mamelodi Sundowns, then switching focus to their critical Nedbank Cup semi-final clash against second-tier side Pretoria Callies in Atteridgeville, which will surely have the relegation-threatened Chilli Boys coming into the clash with heavy legs. Baroka have claimed a win and five draws from the last eight games on their travels, losing to Sundowns and Celtic. Select Bakgakga to come away from the Sisa Dukashe Stadium with at least a point on the Win/Draw Double Chance.

Bloemfontein Celtic 18/10

Draw 2/1

Swallows 15/10

(17:00)

Bloemfontein Celtic seem to be finding their rhythm in the DStv Premiership and are currently unbeaten in four league games after earning a credible 1-1 draw in Durban against Golden Arrows last weekend. Swallows finally returned to winning ways and moved up to fourth spot when they managed a 1-0 victory over Black Leopards. Away from home, though, Swallows are winless in five league matches. My money says this one ends in a stalemate.

Wednesday 21 April

Black Leopards 22/10

Draw 2/1

Stellenbosch 13/10

(15:00)

Black Leopards’ time in the top flight seems to be coming to an end soon as Lidoda Duvha suffered their 15th defeat in 22 matches last weekend, losing 1-0 to Swallows in Gauteng. Their most recent loss stretched their winless run to six games in the DStv Premiership. In that period, Leopards have only managed to earn just a single point. Stellenbosch are winless in four encounters, but drew against SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs in that run, losing only to Sundowns and AmaZulu, who occupy the top two places in the league. I fancy Stellies to get the job done here.

AmaZulu 2/1

Draw 2/1

Mamelodi Sundowns 14/10

(15:00)

We’re set for a humdinger of note in this clash. There’s a lot of tasty ingredients that will make this game impossible to take your eyes off. AmaZulu’s 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium was the catalyst to Usuthu winning the next five games without conceding under the tutelage of coach Benni McCarthy, who will pit his wits against the trio of South African football minds at Sundowns. The previous meeting saw the Brazilians edge the contest 4-3 in a game that I cashed in on, with the Both Teams to Score option at 17/10. I suggest going the same route this time around, with the tie possibly swaying in favour of the Durban boys.

SuperSport United 13/10

Draw 2/1

Golden Arrows 22/10

(17:00)

The wheels seem to be falling off for SuperSport United who were demolished in the Western Cape this past weekend, losing 3-0 to Cape Town City. Matsatsantsa now lie in sixth spot in the league and are winless in six matches. Golden Arrows dropped down to third on the log standings last weekend after being held to their third consecutive draw in the DStv Premiership. Mandla Ncikazi’s side are still unbeaten in six league matches, but have managed just two wins in that period. Backing these sides to cancel each other out seems logical.

Kaizer Chiefs 13/10

Draw 2/1

Cape Town City 22/10

(17:00)

In one of the ties of the week, Cape Town City will be looking to kick on from their impressive result against SuperSport United when they travel to Gauteng to face Kaizer Chiefs. The visitors ended their run of eight games without a win after smashing Kaitano Tembo’s men 3-0. Confidence will be high at Kaizer Chiefs after Gavin Hunt’s charges made it into the last eight of the CAF Champions League. Amakhosi have a game against Baroka on Thursday prior to this encounter, but I still believe Chiefs will win this tie.

DOUBLE @ 4/1

Stellenbosch Win 13/10

Kaizer Chiefs Win 13/10
